  • About Us

Zimbabwe offers a wealth of unforgettable experiences, particularly for those who enjoy the freedom and flexibility of a self-drive holiday. With its diverse landscapes, from rugged mountains to expansive national parks, renting a car is an ideal way to discover the beauty and rich culture of this Southern African gem. Here are some top routes and destinations for your journey through Zimbabwe.

1. The Great Zimbabwe Loop

Starting in Masvingo, this route takes you to the ancient city of Great Zimbabwe, a UNESCO World Heritage site. As one of the most significant archaeological sites in Africa, it’s a must-visit for history enthusiasts. From there, drive through the lush countryside towards the Lake Mutirikwi Recreational Park. The scenic views of the lake and the surrounding granite hills make this drive particularly enjoyable. For those with more time, consider a detour to the Kyle Recreational Park, known for its wildlife and peaceful surroundings.

2. Victoria Falls to Hwange National Park

Begin your adventure at the awe-inspiring Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. From there, head south towards Hwange National Park, the largest game reserve in Zimbabwe. The drive between these two iconic destinations is filled with opportunities to spot wildlife, especially elephants, which Hwange is famous for. The road is well-maintained, making it accessible for most vehicles. Along the way, stop by some of the local villages to experience the hospitality and culture of the region.

3. Eastern Highlands Adventure

The Eastern Highlands, with its misty mountains and lush forests, offers one of the most picturesque drives in Zimbabwe. Start your journey in Mutare, the gateway to the region, and make your way through the Bvumba Mountains. The winding roads offer spectacular views of the valleys below. Continue to the Nyanga National Park, where you can visit the Mutarazi Falls, Zimbabwe’s highest waterfall. This area is also perfect for hiking, fishing, and bird watching.

4. Bulawayo to Matobo Hills

From Bulawayo, take a short drive to the Matobo Hills, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The landscape here is dominated by large granite outcrops and balancing rocks, creating a unique and otherworldly atmosphere. Matobo is also home to some of the country’s most significant historical and cultural sites, including ancient rock paintings and the grave of Cecil Rhodes. The drive is relatively short but packed with scenic views and fascinating stops.

5. Kariba to Mana Pools National Park

For a more adventurous route, consider driving from Kariba to Mana Pools National Park. This journey takes you along the edge of Lake Kariba, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, and into the heart of one of Africa’s most pristine wilderness areas. The road can be challenging, especially in the rainy season, so a 4×4 vehicle is recommended. However, the rewards are immense, with the chance to see a wide variety of wildlife, including lions, elephants, and hippos, often right from the roadside.
